2014 marked Skate Canada’s 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Figure Skating Championships. WK+A Events was retained by Skate Canada to run several celebratory programs during the 2014 Canadian Skating Championships in Ottawa.

CANADA SKATES!, took place at the Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in Ottawa, January 9 to 15, 2014. WK+A Events managed the development, planning and delivery of the following centennial programs:

Governor General Reception at Rideau Hall – A press conference announcing His Excellency The Right Honourable, David Johnston, Governor General of Canada and Her Excellency Sharon Johnston as Patrons of the 2014 Canadian Championships and a short skating show on Rideau Hall’s outdoor rink.

Canada Skates! Festival at Ottawa City Hall – A free 3-day public festival featuring ice shows, family skating, demonstrations, learn to skate activities and Skate Canada alumni appearances. Additionally, a large LED mobile screen showed the TSN broadcast of the Canadian Tire National Skating Championships.

Skate Canada House at Canadian Tire Centre – This venue featured both public and private VIP hospitality. All former Canadian Champions and Skate Canada Hall of Fame members were invited to attend the 2014 championships and approximately 80 champions attended. Special “Meet The Champions” autograph sessions were scheduled prior to each competition session where skating fans could meet some of Canada’s past skating champions.

Historical Displays – Historical memorabilia spanning 100 years of Canadian skating was showcased on the concourse levels of the Canadian Tire Centre. Artifacts included costumes, medals, trophies, equipment, and other skating related memorabilia representing Skate Canada’s great legacy over the past century.
